O’rangers fans have their classic “Oooooooooooo”, Green Ducks fans are always quacking away jubilantly, and Raspberry Racers fans do their best Waluigi impression. The Marble League has a truly unique and diverse set of fans. Even with so many fans to keep track of, there is one fan in particular who can be regarded as perhaps the most famous fan of them all: The legendary Roldo himself.
Roldo was first mentioned in the 2018 Marble League. JMR noticed that one marble would show up to all events while not supporting any one team, opting instead to cheer enthusiastically for all teams. Believing that such dedication and passion should be rewarded, JMR decided to invent a challenge involving spotting him, sometimes even granting him special access to areas near the event in order to make the challenges interesting. Being one of the luckiest and most important marbles around, we at The Rollout decided to reach out to him for an exclusive interview.
After finally meeting him on the fifth day of trying, due to not being able to find him the previous four days, we strolled to a nearby park bench and settled down for a chat. On our first impression, he looked easy going with an air of goofiness surrounding him. He greeted me warmly, apologizing profusely for the previous day’s mishaps, stating this happens all the time. It was heartwarming to see that his newfound celebrity status had clearly not gone to his head, and that he was still the same excited fan that had gotten him noticed in the first place.
After a few minutes of casual talk, we settled down for the serious questions. “As a fan, how does it feel to be an important part of current marble events?” “It has been a wild ride for sure!” he replied ecstatically. “I almost couldn’t believe it when JMR reached out to me, stating that they wanted to make me someone to look out for in future videos. At first I thought this was a prank from my best friend, Walro. Despite the newfound attention and responsibility, though, I try to just be there for the same reason as always; to cheer as loud as I can for every team!”
“Have any fans ever harassed you for being lucky?” I queried, hoping this was not too awkward a question. What I was not expecting was a grin to cross his face before exclaiming “Not at all! That was one of my biggest worries when coming into this position, but I should have known better. The Marble League and all other marble events have the best fans around and all anybody has ever done is congratulate me. It is extremely humbling and I hope to be an inspiration to other fans, showing that anyone can become famous!” At that moment we were interrupted by a family hoping to get an autograph and a few pictures with the famous Roldo. Smiling apologetically at me, he graciously accepted their request. Seeing as he was busy for the next two minutes, I went to get us snacks.
Returning from the hot dog cart I almost got the worst surprise of my life after finding that I could not, once again, spot Roldo. I was about to give up until he shouted out from the bench, thankfully, saving me from embarrassment. Settling down and munching away, the interview continued.
“Have you ever considered getting onto the tracks like one of the streakers? Surely, with your special fan privileges, you would be allowed a run or two.” Pondering, he replied. “Well it would be a lie to say that I’ve never considered it, but my aim is to support the athletes, not to draw attention away from them. Maybe one day though, me and my friend Walro will have our own Marble League team!”
“You have a team?” I questioned further. “Oh yes! We participate in our local town league. We’re not bad to be honest. Hopefully one day we’ll be good enough for the JMRC to reach out to us.”
“What’s your team name?” I asked him. “Team InvisiBall!” He shouted, “Because you’ll never see us coming until it’s too late!”
Finally, I concluded with one final question, “If you were to tell the fans anything, what would you tell them?” “Keep staying awesome!”, he exclaimed. “It’s a wonderful community and I’m glad to be out there in the stands with all of the fans!”
With that being done, we parted ways. After walking away, I turned back and once again found that he had vanished. He is clearly a fan who has an intense love for everything marble sports related. It was a pleasure to let his infectious enthusiasm wash over me. Here’s looking forward to seeing (or trying to see) this happy fan in all future videos!
